Studio by Purdue and the Future of E-Books

by

Kyle Bowen, director of informatics at Purdue University, returns to Higher Ed Live to unveil the latest innovations coming out of Studio by Purdue, Purdue’s in-house development team tasked with building and launching a suite of digital technologies designed to improve student success.

Among their latest offerings, Bowen discusses Jetpack, a mobile app/e-book hybrid which can replace classroom textbooks. Jetpack allows authors to include video, specialized calculators, interactive media, Google maps, interactive quizzes and self-assessment tests together with standard e-book text. Starting in Summer 2012 JetPack will be licensed to higher education institutions and research institutes for use by their faculty or researchers.

Beyond Jetpack, Bowen also shares early results of a Purdue mobility research study, discusses how higher ed institutions can use Studio by Purdue products through a Test Pilot Program, and closes the debate on why higher ed should be in the software development business.
