    How does an institution “own” a community on Facebook?  Zuck owns it; the university just has a non-exclusive right of use.

      That’s a great question. The university might not legally “own” it, but having their own private application allows them to own the content, settings and data. It also gives their students a bunch of tools that are helpful managing the admissions process. While it is built within the Facebook platform, giving schools their own application provides more efficient communication between institutions and students.
