12:30pm EST:  Tom Krieglstein, Owner of AlumniChoose (Closing Keynote: “Dance Floor Theory: Your #Legacy”, broadcasted online via Ustream)

Just like on a dance floor, every school experiences varying levels of student engagement with technology between those fully involved (student leaders) and those lurking on the edge (apathetic students). With a 30% dropout rate within the first year of college, it’s more important than ever to reframe the way we engage our students using technology. The same tactics to create successful social change on a dance floor (connections, relevancy, models of success, and motivation) also work to increase engagement within any school community. DFT creates a new model for creating community, increasing student engagement, and fostering a culture of retention that will send you heading back to your campus supercharged and ready to leave your #Legacy.

Tom is an internationally recognized speaker, writer, and consultant on creating community, increasing student engagement, and fostering student retention. He has worked with over 250 institutions around the U.S. and the world, including University of Wisconsin-Madison, the US Military, and Disney. From successful internet entrepreneur at 21 to three-time “Campus Speaker of the Year” by the age of 28, Tom has walked the walk and talked the talk. As the founder of SAchat, Red Rover, Swift Kick, and now AlumniChoose, Tom has dedicated his life to helping students discover their passion through peer-to-peer learning and experiential learning. His facilitation style wraps the audience into a whirlwind of self discovery that continues long after the program has ended. Blending together his technical aptitude with masterful story-telling, audiences all over the globe have been inspired and motivated by Tom. From the first moment, you’ll see why he is the premier educator on student engagement.

Many of you know Tom as the co-creator of the Student Affairs Chat on Twitter and the Student Affairs Blog.  His experience with Student Affairs professionals, college students, and beyond make him an excellent choice as our first broadcasted keynote speaker.  We are excited to hear him close out the second Student Affairs Technology Unconference!
