It has been a over decade since the social networking revolution began and five years since advancement offices began seriously investing in staff and program dollars to engage alumni online. We are finally at a point where we can see direct connections between digital initiatives and the business goals at the core of institutional communications, alumni engagement, and fundraising efforts. In this episode, panelists will present case studies in each of these areas, discussing the strategies, metrics, and outcomes of recent digital campaigns that align with advancement’s longstanding focus on mobilizing time, talent, and treasure on behalf of our institutions.
Kim BrownKim Brown enjoys being a connector and finding new ways to foster relationships using social media. She is the Director of Strategic Communications and Digital Engagement in Syracuse University’s Office of Alumni Engagement. Prior to joining the alumni office, Kim oversaw alumni programs in Syracuse University’s Career Services office. One of her proudest accomplishments during that time was creating the @WorkingOrange Twitter handle, a concept that many peer institutions have since modeled.
Andrew is executive director of digital for Cornell University’s division of alumni affairs and development. He is a social media strategist/social anthropologist with a strong alumni relations background who is interested in the intersection between community, communication, and technology. His goal is to capitalize on the opportunities offered by emerging technologies, mobile and social, to advance organizational goals by enhancing connectedness and engagement between constituents and organizations, as well as among the constituents themselves. Andrew has a strong track record of recognizing emerging opportunities, mobilizing support for pilot projects and integrating successful experiments into organizational structure and strategy.
Christen is associate director of media relations and social media at Union College. She provides strategic social media planning for the college with special considerations given to growing audiences and brand awareness. She writes, edits and posts content to the Union College website, serving as project manager for most multimedia and video produced on behalf of the College. She also shoots and edits photos for social media channels, accompany news stories online and the College’s alumni magazine.
